Genting is a name that is likely familiar to UK punters; the Genting Group has over 40 properties in their name across the nation, along with several swanky gaming clubs in London and Resorts World Birmingham.
The company has had great success in the brick-and-mortar world, but how does their online offering fare? We'll take an in-depth look in today's post.
Available Games and Software
Genting's online division offers the general range of games you would expect from such a big-name casino property, along with a live casino and sports betting. However, certain sections are a bit thin.
Slots are generally the most popular game at any given Genting location, so let's begin there. The total count numbers over 300 and is drawn from a broad variety of developers including IGT, Novomatic and Blueprint Gaming. There are about 28 progressive jackpot games at this time, including some that you don't often see (like From Dusk Till Dawn and Count Duckula) as well as some of the biggest names in the business (like the Mega Jackpots series from IGT, which includes Cleopatra and Wolf Run). Though it's not a massive count, it's a respectable lineup.
The table game section does not fare so well. As of this writing we count four types of roulette, four Game King video poker variants and one lonesome virtual blackjack table. To be fair, the live dealer casino section is respectable and the lack of standard table games may be intentional to route players there. The live streaming game collection here includes some exotic options such as Arabic Roulette and Dragon Tiger.
Deposit and Withdrawal Options
Genting accepts the standard range of debit and credit cards for both deposits and withdrawals: Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and Switch. You are not able to withdraw to MasterCard or Switch here, however. The casino is also a bit old-school in that it has not yet embraced any e-wallet services or bank transfer options, at least not as of this writing.
One unique wrinkle is that you can visit a local Genting brick-and-mortar location to make cash deposits to your online account as well as withdrawals. However, do note that the minimum amount for both deposits and withdrawals made this way is £50, whereas it is only £10 when using a card online. You can also deposit and withdraw in euros online, but not at a Genting cashier cage.
Safety and Security
In addition to being backed by an international gaming name that has been in business since the 1960s, Genting is directly regulated by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission due to their extensive presence in the country. You can rest assured that you're dealing with one of the most carefully regulated online casinos in the world with this one.
Bonuses and Player's Club
Genting nearly always has a bonus offer for new players, but it can change up a bit with the seasons. At the moment, the current offer is a 100% match on your first deposit ranging from £20 to £200, plus 20 free spins at the Dream Catcher live dealer game. There is a 50x wagering requirement for the deposit bonus, and different games are weighted differently (see the terms and conditions page at the Genting site for current rates). Additionally, you can only bet up to £5 with each hand or spin while using bonus funds. The Dream Catcher spins are made available after you play through the deposit bonus, but these have only a 1x wagering requirement.
There are also some regular bonus offers that are usually in effect. Slot races are frequent here, earning you a point per £1 won at the current qualifying games. There is also currently an added 10% bonus promotion on winning side bets at blackjack.
The online casino offers a loyalty programme called Genting Black that appears to be separate from the Genting Rewards scheme used at most of their offline casinos and resorts. The online programme has four tiers - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Members at all tier levels get a weekly deposit match bonus offer, but the terms improve as you move up the tiers. There is also an ongoing loss rebate scheme - at least 10% at the Bronze tier, moving up to 13% at Diamond. Your cash back earning are paid out automatically twice per month.
Is Genting Casino Worth It?
At first blush, Genting's online casino looks like a token effort that an offline casino giant threw up just to have something available - since this first went up in 2010, it's definitely not a case of being new and still building things out.
The one really interesting bit doesn't come in until the end of our review, so you might want to re-read the last section if you were skimming. It's the ongoing loss rebate offer. Loss rebates are among the most valuable types of offers, and you don't see them often at UK online casinos - much less an ongoing offer that is available across all games!
So that is definitely worth looking into, as over the long run it can turn an unprofitable game into a profitable one in the right circumstances. The only issue is the limited selection of games on offer here - there aren't many of the usual low house edge favorites to take advantage of. A little research on slots that pay well and have low volatility that are subject to the rebate offer could definitely be worth your time, however ...
